Who’s ready for the World’s Best Hot Chocolate recipe?! I am. I actually shared this recipe 5 years ago (you might take a look for another cute way to package it), but my photography skills have improved a little so I thought I’d just redo the whole post. This is truly a crowd favorite – and I’ve got some cute printable gift tags to dress it up a bit, making this the perfect gift for neighbors, friends, teachers and any choco-holics you might know (we all know one, right?).
We made a huge batch of this last year. It’s lasted all year long, and we still have plenty left over…which I’m sure we’ll start into before too long. It’s getting cold outside (finally, yay) and hot chocolate is definitely on the agenda!
Here’s how to make it (you can buy most of this stuff on Amazon and avoid the grocery stores altogether, woohoo):
- 25.6 oz dry milk (makes about 8 quarts milk…sometimes the boxes are labeled differently, so look for either ounces or quarts)
- 16 oz. jar of dry cream (I used coffee creamer – not sure if that’s the same thing or not, but it worked, and Charles said it tasted exactly the same as his mom’s recipe)
- 3/4 box of powdered sugar
- 2 pound box of Nestle Quick
- A Really Big Bowl (no, really – it needs to be big)
- Jars/Reusable Containers/Whatever you want to present it in
Dump all the ingredients in the bowl and mix very, very well. Then, scoop out the mix into jars (or whatever you want to put it in).
Fill a mug 1/3 – 1/2 full with the mixture (not rocket science, but just depending on your taste – I am a “half full” kinda gal, myself). Add boiling water (this is what my mother-in-law did, but I just microwaved some water for two minutes and poured that in to the mug with the mixture), stir, and get to drankin’. That stuff is good.
Add some marshmallows to take this over the top.

The printable gift tags included have both the ingredients and the directions listed on them – making it super simple to gift! I used some cute pink twine we found at Michaels to attach the tags. You could use any pretty ribbon. I printed these labels on card stock. You could also print on sticker paper and affix to the jars.
Either way you go, this is a super fun gift that the giftee is going to love (and actually use). 🙂

Carrie; how many jars does this make?
Thanks!!!
About four or five big jars…but a lot more if you use smaller jars!
Cant wait to try this! Thanks for sharing the labels too! What size box of powdered sugar do you use?
1 lb – but I haven’t been able to find the boxes lately! My grocery store carries it in bags now. Still 1 lb though! 🙂
