You might even already know this – I always say I’m going exclusively blog about pizza, and I’m only half kidding! Today I want to share with you a new favorite. This BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza marries some good ol’ Texas barbecue and pizza. The whole family is going to love it! BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza CarrieElle.com

BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza

First of all, if you’re the type of person who thinks you can’t make your own pizza crust, I’m here to tell you that you can. Not only is it easier than you’d think, but it is so worth it. The Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast crust recipe I’m going to share here is beginner-friendly and super easy to make. Even if you’ve never baked with yeast or made your own crust before, you’ll be able to get this beautiful, golden-brown crust. And the from-scratch taste you get from baking with yeast is always the best.

We used Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast for this recipe. Grab it in the baking section. Side note: my mom was here when I was making this. She saw the yeast and said, “that stuff’s been around since I was a kid!” So we looked up how long it has been around (can you remember a time without  Fleischmann’s® ? I can’t!) and they have definitely been around since my mom was a kid – in fact, they’ve been around for 150 years!

This pizza crust comes together in just 30 minutes (from start to baked!). Not only does it taste better, but it’s also less-expensive and takes less time to get on the table than it would be to order pizza. It’s like a fancy Family Pizza Night, except it’s easy. BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza CarrieElle.com We used this pulled pork recipe and this BBQ sauce recipe for the toppings. I love this pork recipe because it’s pretty much fail-proof. We made the pork and used it for several recipes throughout the week (you won’t need much at all for this recipe, although of course it’s pizza so you can top it however you’d like!). You can use your favorite shredded pork and BBQ for this recipe if you don’t want to make them from scratch.

You can find this crust recipe and lots of other delicious ways to bake with Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast here.

Here are some tips for working with the yeast in this recipe:

The right temperature of the water is going to determine how successful your crust is. Too hot, it will kill the yeast…too cold, and it won’t activate. If you have a food thermometer, use it! If not, just make sure it’s not too hot.

Also, make sure the yeast isn’t expired, as that could keep it from rising.

Make sure to follow the instructions on the package of Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast. BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza CarrieElle.com BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza CarrieElle.com

Ingredients

  • 1 Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast
  • 1 c all purpose flour about 1 more cup set aside for kneading
  • 1 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 c water heated to 120°-130°F
  • 3 tbsp Mazola® corn oil
  • 1/2 c BBQ sauce
  • 1 c mozzarella shredded
  • 1/4 red onion thinly sliced
  • 1/2 c shredded pork

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F
  • Combine 1 cup flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl.  Add and water heated to 120˚F-130˚F and follow recipe instructions. Always use a thermometer to check temperature. Mix until well blended, about 1 minute.
  • Gradually add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.  Dough should form a ball and will be slightly sticky.
  • Knead on a floured surface, adding additional flour if necessary, until smooth and elastic, about 4 minutes.
  • Let dough rest for 10 minutes.
  • Pat dough with floured hands to fill greased pizza pan or baking sheet.  Or, you could roll dough on a floured counter to 12-inch circle; place in greased pizza pan or baking sheet.
Form a rim by pinching the edge of the dough.
  • Spread barbecue sauce over pizza. Add pulled pork, cheese, and onions.
  • Bake on lowest oven rack for 12 to 15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and crust is browned.
