Hi, friends!  I’m back with another super useful FREE printable to help you make the most of your running program – a Printable Mileage Tracker!

Mileage Tracker Printable A5 8.5x11

Probably the best piece of advice I got when I started running (aside from “get fitted for running shoes”) was to keep a running journal and track my mileage.  So, of course, I designed a printable running mileage tracker for my planner (and, ok, one for my fridge.  Clearly I need constant encouragement).  The tracker was so helpful that I decided to share it – I hope you find it useful in keeping track of your runs!

We’ve provided you with this printable mileage tracker as both an 8.5×11 and a printable A5 planner insert.

Should you track your running mileage?

Yes!  You absolutely should track how far you’re running.  There are a few different reasons why it’s important – some physical and some emotional.  Physically, it’s important to keep a handle on how many miles you’re running in a week in order to avoid injury.  The general rule of thumb is to increase weekly mileage by no more than 10% a week and it’s impossible to do that if you don’t know how many miles you’re running weekly.

Additionally, if you’re training for a race (hello, fellow 5k-ers!), it is helpful to know how far you’re running so you’re fully prepared for your distance on race day.  Emotionally, it just feels good to be able to see the progress you’re making with your running.  And on days when you have a bad run and feel like quitting, the visual reminder that you have had many, many good runs before the bad one helps put it in perspective as just one bad run.

How should you track your runs?

There are two schools of thought on this and I think they’re both useful.  Some people think you should track your mileage and some people thing you should track your minutes – I think both are useful and worth tracking.  In case you feel the same, I’ve designed both a running mileage tracker and a running time tracker.  Use one or use both (I use both!) and let us know if they have been helpful in your running journey!
