it’s week five (or six, I’ve lost count) of staying at home and to be honest, it’s not quite going like I imagined. I imagined that I’d be working out and eating healthy and emerge back into the world some slimmer, stronger version of myself. Ha. Hahaha. HAHAHAHAHA. While I actually have been keeping up my workouts, I’ve managed to avoid the “eating healthy” part. Last week I had a personal pep-talk with myself and finally got to baking and cooking some healthier options. These healthy cinnamon chocolate chip oatmeal cookies are one of the by-products of that pep talk!

Truth be told, this recipe is really a raisin cinnamon oatmeal cookie recipe. But my family straight-up revolted (revolted, I tell you!) when I brought out the raisin version. I understand that raisins are polarizing. But I’m Team Raisin. So you can swap out the chocolate for the raisins in these cookies!

This recipe is both 21 Day Fix and Weight Watchers-friendly. See the bottom of the post for container counts and WW points for all three plans!

Are oatmeal cookies healthy?

Well, that depends on the cookie. My Oatmeal Butterscotch cookies? Decidedly not healthy. But these cookies derive their sweetness and moist chewy goodness from bananas and maple syrup rather than shortening, butter, oil, and sugar. So this is a much healthier option that will also satisfy your sweet tooth!

Can you make oatmeal cookies without flour?

Yep! You’re going to use oat flour for these. Which I guess is technically flour, but definitely not wheat flour.

These cookies are egg-free, flour-free, gluten-free, butter-free, and dairy-free! To make sure these are dairy-free, you’ll want to check your chocolate chips. We used a dark chocolate for these, but if you use a milk chocolate chip then these would obviously have dairy. So just read your labels! 🙂

Like I mentioned above, you can sub out the chocolate chips for raisins.

We eat these within a couple days, and I leave them on my counter. If they’re going to be around any longer than that, I would store in the fridge. I will also sometimes make a larger batch and store in an air-tight container in the freezer. They’re great to grab as snacks!

You can use a fork to mash your bananas. My favorite banana-mashing tool is this handy meat chopper. I use it all the time. It’s made for ground beef but you’ll also use it for potatoes, bananas…anything that needs a good mashing! Dogs not included.

These healthy Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies are gluten-free, dairy-free, and egg-free! They're also 21 Day Fix and WW-friendly.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 bananas large, overripe
  • 2 c rolled oats divided
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 c dark chocolate chips can sub for raisins - if you're doing raisins, I prefer using 1/2 cup

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350F and line a large, rimmed baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper or a Silpat baking mat.
  • In a high-speed blender or food processor, blend one cup of rolled oats into flour and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, mas the bananas with a fork (or a mashing tool) until smooth. A few chunks are okay! Add the oat flour, remaining rolled oats, baking soda, cinnamon, maple syrup, and salt. Stir vigorously to combine, then fold in chocolate chips.
  • Scoop out two tablespoons per cookie from the mixture and form into balls. Place each cookie onto the prepared baking sheet without overcrowding. You should get 12 balls.
  • Place in the pre-heated oven and bake until the cookies are lightly golden brown and just barely set to the touch, approximately 16-20 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
