10 Board Books Your Baby Will Love

You know what my babies loved most about board books?

Eating them.

Seriously. That was especially the case with Jack – I thought he might have something “wrong” with him when, at six-months-old, he’d cry when I tried to read him. If he wasn’t able to hold and eat the book, he wasn’t interested. He eventually learned to love books, and today he will gladly sit next to me as I read him a chapter book. But I had to work for it when he was a baby.

I am going to share with you the best board books for babies that I discovered when my own kids were babies. These are books that would hold their attention, even if only for a few moments before they couldn’t resist eating them any longer. 😉

Best Board Books for Babies

1. Alice in Wonderland: A BabyLit Colors Primer – I love this book (such fun pictures), and my kids – now five and two-years-old – love this book (even as “big” kids). 

2. Peek-a-Who, by Nina Laden: Here’s another one that they still like me to read to them, even though it’s only a few pages lined and designed for babies. It’s just a fun book. Great rhyming and engaging pictures!

3. Barn Yard Dance, by Sandra Boynton: You guys! This book is so fun to read. It’s all about a barnyard hoe-down, complete with dancing ducks and fiddling cows. 

4. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle: Of couse, The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a classic, and kids love this book (who wouldn’t love a colorful caterpillar eating his way through sausages and cake and lollipops?). The board book is suitable for babie and hold up to wear-and-tear better than it’s “regular” version.

5. Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown: Another classic, the rhyming is fun to read and even small babies will be captivated by the bright colors and contrast in the pictures.

6. Baby Einstein Mini Board Books (set of 4): This little set of four books were a big hit in my house. Especially the baby book – my kids would stare at the baby’s faces, entranced. I actually had to put this book away for awhile because when Jack was a baby and would see the picture of the crying baby in the book, he’d start crying too. I still have this book around the house, along with the dog one (which they also love).

7. My Big Animal Book, by Roger Priddy: So many fun animals to look at, and this book is nice and big. We loved identifying the animals and even the colors in this book, too.

8. Little Blue Truck, by Alice Schertle: This book rhymes (and it’s well-done), is full of animals, trucks, and bright colors – what’s not to love? The pictures and rhyming will hold a baby’s attention – the story is suitable for older kids, too.

9. What Makes a Rainbow? by Betty Ann Schwartz: Talk about a full sensory experience! Vivid colors, fun animals, and a rainbow made of RIBBONS – I love this book! My kids loved playing wtih the ribbons, and they’ve held up really well through two kids. Babies will *love* the brightly-colored ribbons inside this book.

10. Touch and Feel Pets: Babies can feel a dog’s fur, a cat’s whiskers, a pony’s mane – this is another fun book for babies who are in the “touch everything” stage.
