Contributor Chellie (who blogs at her stunningly beautiful food blog, Art From My Table) is sharing this fantastic 21 Day Fix Crock Pot Chili recipe with us today…and it looks AMAZING!
Fresh ingredients take this Slow Cooker Turkey Chili over the top delicious and the best news? It’s 21 Day Fix approved!
If you’re one of my 21 day fix friends, you are going to love this Turkey Chili!! Best of all, you can whip it up in your slow cooker, get on with your day, and have a hot comforting meal by the time dinner rolls around. Did I just say that? “dinner ROLLS around“? Haha! I’m getting more cheesy every day. I did it again.
We had this last night, and it was darn delicious! Plus, easy peasy to prepare. Here’s my hot tip~to make your life just a tad bit easier, prep your veggies and meat the night before, so you can dump and run in the morning. I know, that was totally worth the read right there!
Fresh is best
I love this recipe because it uses fresh ingredients. Nothing against our canned friends, but they can contain some preservatives and such that you may want to avoid. So whenever possible, I use fresh ingredients. Even beans. I’m able to get all my dried beans from a local source, so I actually purchase them all in October, and use them during the year. I’ve found the best way for me to save time, because they do take longer to prepare, is to cook a bunch of them in my slow cooker, and then freeze them in quart size bags. Then when I’m ready to use them for a recipe like this one, I have them at the ready. They don’t take too long to thaw.
Ingredients:
Since we’re talking slow cookers, this is my favorite slow cooker. I like that it automatically switches to the warm setting when it’s finished cooking.
I love mine with a little cilantro sprinkled on top.

I was just looking for a recipe like this last night, so I’m glad that you’ve posted it today! I’ve been wanting to try a made from scratch chili, to see if it’s any more cost effective than just buying the canned stuff when it’s on sale, and had no idea what the right beans would be for it…and now I do! Thank you! 😀
Jessica,
I’m so glad you like the recipe! You can really use any beans you like for this, I just happen to like a mix. I’ve never really compared the pricing, but on a very rough estimate, I’d say this recipe would be between $1.50-$2.00 per serving. You could bring that cost down by substituting ground beef for the turkey (often that’s less expensive) and using Green pepper and maybe one other colored pepper. Where I live the colored peppers at times are pricey. It also depends on how much you spend on tomato sauce and broth, etc. I estimated on the higher end, but all in all, I think this is pretty affordable! 🙂 And, you can’t beat the fresh taste!!
JUST MADE THIS YESTERDAY IN THE CROCKPOT. USED CANNED BEANS. THIS IS SOME OF THE MOST AWESOME CHILLI I’VE EVER MADE. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE RECIPE.. AND THE BEST PART, IT’S NO GUILT FOR THE 21 DAY FIX DIET!
YAY! So glad you liked it!!
This looks so good! Pinned and tweeted. Thanks for coming to our party and sharing such an amazing masterpiece! I hope to see you next Monday @7 because we love to party with you! Happy Wednesday! Lou Lou Girls
That looks absolutely delicious. I am a little jealous that you have a bean guy!
How much is considered 1 serving? 1 cup of chili?
One serving is closer to two cups. 🙂
Tomato sauce is counted as purple not green!
Turkey broth has to be counted as well it’s red
Hi Samantha! Actually, tomato sauce with no sugar added is a green! 🙂 You can definitely count the turkey broth…it’s so minimal that in cases like this I usually don’t (it’s like 20 calories or something per serving).
Hey love the recipe!! Just wondering, wouldn’t you need to count the beans as a servings of carb, yellow container ?
Hi love the recipe! Just wondering, wouldn’t you need to count the beans as a serving of carbs, yellow container?
Great question, Stacy! This is where I got the red containers from: http://www.beachbody.com/beachbodyblog/21-day-fix-faq – SO, I think it’s okay to replace meats with other high-protein foods, like beans (and I try not to eat a *ton* of meat, so it’s very hard for me to meet all of my red container requirements…so I like beans as an alternative).
Do you used canned beans?
You definitely can!
I used canned beans. Each can contained 1.5 cups of beans instead of the 2 cups the recipe calls for but I just say less calories right? The chili was good. I liked it just with cilantro but my kids loved adding lime, and tortilla chips. All four of my kids ate it and that’s saying something!
Yes to fewer calories! And YAY that the kids liked it!
Hi! I made this last night; it makes a HUGE pot and it is so good. I also just started the 21 day fix… one red container is just not a lot 🙁 I want more of it to eat!
Based on the above comments one serving is 2 cups of the soup! 🙂
Thank you Haley!
did you use canned beans or raw beans?
Fresh, but you could also use canned!
Were the fresh beans already cooked, or do they cook in the crockpot?
I would cook them first. 🙂
I think I mess it up, I up dry beans in the crock pot but it seems like there is not enough liquid, and 6 cups of dry beans seems like a lot
Accidentally used my beef broth, instead of chicken, hoping it tastes okay!
Oops! Let me know how it turned out…I’m guessing it would still be ok!
Don’t know what I did wrong, but when the 8 hours were up the beans sucked up all the liquid and there was nothing left. I put tbe correct amounts. Beans are also still under done.
I’m going to ask the recipe creator and see what I can find out for you!!
Two things; you mention you cooked the dry beans before hand.then freeze them. So when ready to make the chili, do you still cook the beans again for the required time? Next question; at end of the cooking time, are the vegetables over cooked a bit?
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong it turned out horrible. The beans are still rock hard and used up all the juice. Followed the recipe exact but it seems like there’s way too many beans for the amount of liquid being used.
I’m so sorry to hear this!! I’m not sure what the problem could be?!
I followed the recipe to the letter. No go. The beans were not cooked all the way through and it was dry. There was no liquid left. I cooked on slow for 8 hours. So if this is one of those recipes where you have to improvise or modify in some way that I don’t know about, I think that it doesn’t do any good to share a recipe where there is more needed than what is posted.
Hi Pierre! I’m so sorry you had trouble with the recipe. It should work, as-is, without needing to modified in any way. I am not sure what happened and I’m sorry it didn’t turn out for you…I know that is a real pain!
